New Year's Resolution: Lose Weight, Eat Chocolate, Slow Down
The number one New Year's Resolution is to lose weight. Whether you're considering losing a few pounds, or significant weight loss, you can do so eating chocolate and slowing down according to David M. Masters, author of The Chocolate Weight Loss Diet.
 This three-fold commitment to a better life will yield a healthier outlook on the quality of your life and longevity.
Lose Weight.
The first step is to make a commitment to lose those extra pounds (how many or few they may be) write down on a piece of paper, your weight today, and your target weight. Subtract the difference. This is how many pounds you have to lose. I recently went through this exercise with a friend whose current weight was 217 pounds. His target weight was 165 pounds, a difference of 52 pounds.
Realizing and getting to know your starting-point and end-goal, will help when planning your weight loss, and setting step-goals (like stepping stones) from here to there.
Eat Chocolate.
There is a wave of responsibility that is invading and stimulating the chocolate confection industry. Recent scientific studies indicate the health benefits of unprocessed cacao, the source of all chocolates.
I will not delineate the plethora of advantages of unprocessed chocolate, but one of the advantages includes being a powerful appetite suppressant, another encourages the release of fat cells into the bloodstream where fat can be eliminated from one's body more effectively.
By being more cautious this coming year about your chocolate selection process, seeking out chocolates that are cold-processed, dark (65% or more), have little or no processed sugar, added fat, caffeine, or waxes.
Most people eat chocolate anyway... This year, by selecting a healthy variety of dark chocolate, you can use it regularly following every meal (and as an in-between meal snack) as a weight loss supplement, while you enjoy the luscious qualities of rich, dark chocolate as you lose weight and achieve astounding health benefits.
Slow Down.
Remember my friend who had to lose 52 pounds? He was initially overwhelmed by having to lose 52 pounds. When I reminded him that it is only a loss of one pound per week, over the next year, he was greatly relieved.
For him, each week is a step toward his goal weight. By weighing-in once-per-week, he can evaluate where he is in his weight loss journey. If on a given week, he weighs-in a couple of pounds too heavy to achieve his weight loss goals, he can take additional steps to make up for the short-fall, putting him back on the track to successful weight loss.
This year, slow down your projected weight loss. An effective rate of weight loss is no more than two pounds per week. One pound per week is optimal. A higher rate of weight loss than two pounds per week, leads to failure - because that weight is more likely to come back with a few pounds more, which could lead to causing more weight/health related problems in the long run.
Slow down your weight loss for long-lasting results, which will ensure the successful attainment of your New Year's Resolution to lose weight in 2009.

Think back to the last time you were on a diet... Remember everyone watching what you ate? The grapefruits, pre-packaged (obviously labeled) frozen (or suspended animation) TV dinners, homemade diet soup(s), powdered drink mixes, etc… You just knew those people were pointing, talking about you behind your back, saying, "Oh, look! She's on another diet, and this time..." blah, blah, blah...
But now that you're on the Chocolate Weight Loss Diet - what will they think when they see you eating chocolate? They'd never guess you could possibly be on a diet. Nonetheless, if you follow the simple rules, your excess pounds will continue to drop.
Nobody makes fun of a weight loser eating chocolate, although they may become jealous and ask: "How did you do it?" because they, too, would like to eat chocolate, lose weight and be healthy.
